[Application] RadicleDAO Governance Design - apiary

[grant update]

Hi everyone!

We’ve spent the last few months interviewing and listening to your community. For us, as a team, it’s been an incredible experience to get to know Radicle better and inspiring to hear and see the enthusiasm and cohesion of the community and its shared purpose.

We’re excited to report that we’ve completed Phase 1 of our grant. As part of that, we spoke with more than 20+ contributors and community members to understand:

  • What is the Radicle ecosystem?
  • Who belongs to it?
  • What’s the shared purpose/vision of the community?
  • What challenges it is currently facing in achieving that purpose?
  • How can current systems be improved on to better support the community with its goals?

We’ve completed the following deliverables:

Since we began our research, a lot has changed within the Radicle ecosystem. Most importantly, the brand split was announced in February. In response to these changes, we expanded the summary analysis deliverables to include:

[image] Insights & analysis report – This report presents what we heard in our interviews with the community. It organizes the material we have collected from our interviews and highlights the key takeaways, which serve as the evidence for the analysis done in the next report. Think of it as a neutral mirror for where the community is and how it feels about Radicle’s mission, culture, product, and governance. In the second part of the report, we document our recommendations for what to do about the challenges and opportunities presented in the analysis.

[image] Short blog post updating the community on our process and sharing listening presentation – To keep everyone informed about our progress and to give the community an opportunity to engage with us, we plan on drafting a short blog post, updating the community, giving context for how the grant has evolved, and sharing the Insights Report.

[image] Analysis report – In this document, we breakdown, interpret, and identify patterns from the findings of these interviews, with the goal of elucidating how the community’s goals, fears, and objectives are manifesting in the organization and its governance. Rather than simply providing an overview of the objectives and vision for governance as we had originally proposed, this report will explore the vision and objectives, and analyze what currently stands in the way of their realization.

[image] Community presentation – At some point in the spring, presumably after our in-person meetings, some or all of this information will be presented to the community in the form of an online presentation and Q&A session.

We had originally intended to deliver an overview document of objectives and vision for the end governance state Draft Purpose statement, but with the changes and what we heard from the community, this step felt premature. Instead, we recommend in our report a more thorough workshopping and exploration of the DAO based on recent organizational changes and to better address the concerns expressed by the community. We’ve been working on this with the governance committee and will update the community in the coming weeks.

Please feel free to reach out to us [hello@apiary.xyz] if you have any questions or concerns. We’re happy to discuss!
